Last year I was kindly invited along to the "For Any Woman" Autumn cover shoot to document behind the scenes and get a good feel of how a magazine shoot works. I had the most amazing day and could not believe that I had been given such a wonderful opportunity. After keeping in contact with the magazine's beautiful editor Datsa Gaile, to my surprise, I was asked to be one of the March 2014 cover girls! Of course I was in shock but extremely excited, grateful and honoured!
Each month, the magazine travel the country to shoot four different women for the cover, each from the same city. My city is Liverpool, England and I was given the great opportunity to help arrange the shoot by choosing three other ladies, each with an inspirational story as well as the perfect location for the shoot. After not much thought, I remembered the wonderful fashion agency "Model 101" which is where I did my first ever celebrity interview with Lydia-Rose Bright of TOWIE. I decided to contact Amanda Moss, Model 101 owner, editor of Lifestyle Monthly magazine and creator of Liverpool Fashion Week to see if she would kindly offer her agency for the magazine's shoot. To my relief, she accepted, many thanks Amanda for providing your time, space and refreshments!
When it came to choosing the models, Amanda was my first choice. I have had the pleasure of meeting her a few times in the past and always admired her work ethic and determination to always achieve more. As a mother, she is an inspiration to all of us women wanting to do more with our time as she shows us, it can be done! My next picks were two lovely ladies who had both inspired me or others around them. Claire, creator of "Liverpool Urban Hair Show" had provided me with my first ever press pass to a fashion/beauty event. Her event really inspired me and made me want to blog more about local and national fashion events and for that I am truly grateful. My third choice, Lesley was a great inspiration to me way before my interest in beauty and fashion blossomed. During my college days, my only love was for music. It still is a passion of mine. I started off singing and playing the guitar but decided to try my hand at drums. I taught myself the basics before I met Lesley but always wanted to take professional lessons. Luckily my college hired Lesley and what can I say? She is epic! I always remember feeling so comfortable around her, she has an amazing teaching style which I really admire. I thank her for my love of drums now and I definitely need to get back to playing! As well as being musically gifted and holding many qualifications, Lesley is a mother of two... lucky kids eh?!
The day of the shoot arrived so fast, I was super excited! I met Datsa at the train station and we both arrived on location just in time! We each had our own makeup artist/hairstylist which was amazing. I really felt like a princess! Styling for the shoot was white, black and yellow which was nice and simple. I decided to go for a black skater skirt, black top and heels whilst adding hints of yellow through my accessories (earrings, scarf and bracelet). I opted for natural looking makeup with a pink lip. My makeup artist Eve Jenkins, gave me a lovely neutral bronzed look with a cat eye flare to spice it up. My hair, well where do I begin?! First of all, my hair is very long and there is a lot of it. Silly me decided that I wanted big wavy curls... it took ages! Thankfully, Eve was a trooper and pulled through... somehow! The end result was beautiful and it lasted all day!
For the shoot, we started off by doing a few test shots alone and then as a group. For this we wore a white top with jeans and changed into out main outfits ready for the cover images. The same applied here, a few pictures alone before coming together for the final group shot.
After a long day of smiling and gaining a twitchy mouth in the process, Datsa, photographer Arnis Usackis, videographer Uldis Abolins and I all went for a spot of tea. I tried my first ever mint tea which was so delicious and we wrapped up the day with some filming in the city centre were Datsa was interviewed for Latvian TV!
For Any Woman - March Edition will be released within the next week so keep your eyes peeled for that as well as my interview!
